Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Objectives 2026/27
In June 2024 the Chief Executive invited the Local Government Association (LGA) to undertake a review of the City Council’s work on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and invited recommendations on how to make improvements.
In response a task force was set up to take the recommendations forward and a strategy is now being developed. Below are the actions that we will be focusing on for this coming year:
- Ensure that EDI is embedded in all stages of the response to Local Government Reorganisation – by April 2028
- Develop an Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) for the 2027/28 budget – by January 2027
- Evaluate trial of EQIA recording system and agree next steps – by August 2026
- Build community and ward profiles based on census, health, service and other data - ongoing
- Implement the EDI Communications Plan including a programme of support and promotion for events that promote inclusion - ongoing
- Continue to implement the EDI Training Plan – by September 2026
- Develop policy and guidance for managers and staff on reasonable adjustments- August 2026
- Update the Accessible Meeting Guidance for staff to include online meetings – June 2026
- Implement the EHRC revised Code of Practice following the Supreme Court Ruling on the meaning of Sex in the Equality Act - September 2026
- Establish requirements for publishing staff data to ensure compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty – by April 2027
- Publish a new suite of objectives for the organisation in line with the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty - complete
- Publish and implement offer for care experienced young people – July 2026
- Build evidence for and submit Disability Confident Self-Assessment – December 2027
