5. Joint habitats mitigation approach and evidence for contributions
Exeter City Council, East Devon District Council and Teignbridge District Council have joined together to work across the three authority areas to protect the Exe Estuary, Dawlish Warren and the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths for future generations to enjoy.
These European designated habitats are sensitive to the impacts of development and therefore development is required to provide mitigation contributions. The need for the habitat mitigation contributions and the measures to address development impact were established through the 2014 Joint South East Devon European Site Mitigation Strategy.
Habitat mitigation contributions required by the three Councils are consistent across the Council areas depending on development location. The surveys and reports that informed the adoption of the joint approach and the standard mitigation contribution are below:
