Community Infrastructure Levy

The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a charge placed on development, such as new homes and extensions to homes. It is calculated according to the floor area of the development.

The money generated through the levy will contribute to the funding of infrastructure to support development in Exeter and manage its impact.

CIL is usually spent on larger, strategic projects which benefit the wider city as a whole. As an example, CIL has been used to fund St Sidwell’s Point Leisure Centre, Marsh Barton Station and junction improvements at Sandy Park.
