Objective (Vision and mission)

Growing resilient communities in Exeter by strengthening and sustaining existing wellbeing partnerships and initiatives. To create an environment where physical activity is increased and mental wellbeing is improved. Exeter will maximise the impact of funding and make best use of opportunities to improve community health & wellbeing. We are determined to tackle deep-rooted inequalities and unlock the benefits of physical activity and wellbeing for everyone.

People in Exeter on low incomes that are least likely to be active and suffering the poorest health outcomes.

Key Successes

Delivering the Great Western Railway Community fund project ‘Rails to Trails’
Establishing enhanced programmes for Wellbeing Exeter through physical activity:
- Get back into work
- This Girl Can – ‘City Sisters’
- Green and Blue Network
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion programme with Inclusive Exeter
Data collation complete with Local Active Lives, DWP Universal Credit and work programmes, Public Health JSNA
£11million ECC and partner investment into Wonford Community Wellbeing Hub and King George V (Exeter City Community Trust led) schemes

Key Priorities for 2026

Recruit and develop programme of work with University of Exeter intern – health data science and community engagement / focus groups
Further explore and present insight from Local Active Lives, DWP and health data to ECC Leadership and Exeter Partnership
Establish proposition for investment to Wellbeing Exeter / Live & Move programmes through sharing insight packs from data and insight presentations
Deliver Green Circle legacy project – establish local neighbourhood Green Circle shorter walks
Expand and grow the leisure partnership and City Sisters programme
Support the delivery of the Wonford Community Hub and King George V development schemes
