9. What support will I get?
Exeter City Council runs induction training for new councillors. This will help you to become familiar with the key policies, services and senior staff of the council, and the expectations and role of a councillor.
There is training that you will have to attend, for example, finance, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and the members’ code of conduct. Councillors are also provided with IT equipment and support. As referred to earlier, councillors are offered development opportunities throughout their time as a councillor to help with their knowledge of council services, and to develop personal skills and confidence.
