This page provides practical information to help you plan an event at the Historic Exeter Guildhall, including catering arrangements, access, transport and other key considerations.
Catering
Catering for events at the Guildhall is provided by external caterers.
We can supply contact details for caterers who have worked at the Guildhall previously and are familiar with the building and its procedures. Hygiene documentation is held for these suppliers.
There is no fixed menu for delegation or hire packages. Menu options can be discussed and agreed at the time of booking, subject to caterer availability.
If you have specific dietary requirements, these must be provided in advance so that caterers can accommodate them wherever possible. Due to the nature of catering environments, food cannot be guaranteed to be prepared in an allergy-free kitchen.
Because catering is provided externally, the Guildhall cannot be held liable for catering services.
Bringing your own food
In most cases, we ask that food is not brought into the Guildhall.
If you are hiring the Guildhall without a package, you may bring pre-prepared food, provided it does not require preparation on site. Exceptions may be considered for specific dietary needs.
Access and accessibility
The Historic Exeter Guildhall is a listed building and access within the building is limited. Accessibility varies depending on the room and layout selected.
If you or your guests have specific access requirements, please raise these at the enquiry stage so that appropriate arrangements can be considered.
Location and transport
The Guildhall is located in the heart of Exeter on the High Street and is easily accessible by public transport.
By car
The Guildhall is easily reached from the M5 and major routes. Nearby car parks include:
- Guildhall Shopping Centre (Paul Street, EX4 3HP)
- Mary Arches Car Park (14 Mary Arches Street, EX4 3AZ)
By bus
Stagecoach operates regular bus services across Exeter, with stops close to the Guildhall.
Park and Ride
Park and Ride services operate from Sowton, Marsh Barton and Honiton Road.
By train
- Exeter Central station is approximately a five-minute walk
- Exeter St David’s station is around a 20-minute walk
By air
Exeter Airport offers flights from locations across the UK and abroad, with a regular bus service to the city centre.
Deliveries and access times
Deliveries to the Guildhall are only permitted:
- Before 10.00am, or
- After 6.00pm
All deliveries must be arranged in advance.
Frequently asked questions
What are the minimum numbers for hire packages?
Packages are based on a minimum of 10 delegates. Events with fewer attendees may be accommodated using room hire only, with additional services booked separately.
What happens if my delegate numbers change?
You will be contracted for your minimum numbers. Additional delegates must be confirmed at least five working days before the event to allow for catering arrangements.
Can we hire the Guildhall without a package?
Yes. Room-only hire is available and does not include catering or equipment unless booked separately.
Is parking available on site?
There is no on-site parking, but several public car parks are located nearby.
