2. Spaces and layouts

Hiring the Guildhall

The Historic Exeter Guildhall offers two principal event spaces, each capable of supporting a range of layouts to suit different types of meetings and events. Both rooms combine historic character with flexibility, allowing layouts to be tailored to your requirements wherever possible.

The Great Hall

The Great Hall is the Guildhall’s largest and most formal space, well suited to conferences, presentations, exhibitions and larger meetings.

Capacity:
Up to 80 people, depending on layout.

With its oak panelling, high ceiling and historic windows, the Great Hall provides a strong sense of occasion and is particularly suitable for events that benefit from a prestigious setting.

The Jury Room

The Jury Room offers a more intimate setting, ideal for smaller meetings, workshops and breakout sessions.

Capacity:
Up to 35 people, depending on layout.

This space retains the historic character of the Guildhall while offering a quieter environment for focused events.

Room layouts

Both the Great Hall and the Jury Room can be arranged in a variety of layouts. Example seating styles include:

  • Theatre style – rows of chairs facing the front
  • Classroom style – desks with seating facing forward
  • Boardroom style – tables arranged in a closed rectangle
  • Horseshoe style – tables arranged in an open U-shape
  • Cluster format – small groups of tables and chairs
  • Formal or informal dining layouts – subject to capacity

Layout options are dependent on room size, event type and final delegate numbers. If you require a specific set-up not listed above, this can be discussed at the enquiry stage.

Accessibility

The Historic Exeter Guildhall is a listed building and access within the building is limited. Accessibility varies depending on the room and layout selected.

We recommend discussing any specific access requirements when planning your event so that appropriate arrangements can be considered.

Planning your next step

Once you have identified the most suitable space and layout, the next step is to explore:

  • Hire options and packages – day hire, half-day hire and room-only options
  • Planning your event – catering, transport, deliveries and FAQs
