1. Overview

The Local Plan guides development in the city in the period up to 2026. It allocates sites for development and provides the policies which are used to make decisions on planning applications. The Local Plan is currently made up of the Adopted core strategy (2012) and the adopted Exeter Local Plan First Review (2005).

The existing plans are supported by a detailed evidence base.

The Council is currently preparing the Exeter Plan which will cover the years between 2021 and 2041 and will eventually replace the Core Strategy and Local Plan First Review. The Local Development Scheme (LDS) sets out the timetable for preparing the Council’s new planning policy documents.
