Changes to my rent
Your rent can change from time to time. We will always tell you in writing before this happens.
Your rent may be changed from time to time and is usually increased, in line with National Government regulations, from the first Monday in April each year. We will write to you at least 4 weeks before any change starts and explain your new rent and when it applies from.
Your rent may also change if:
- service charges change
- you move to a different property
- the number of bedrooms you are charged for changes
- your tenancy type changes
If you receive Housing Benefit, you must tell them about any rent change. If you don’t, your benefit may not cover the full rent.
If you receive Universal Credit, you must use your journal to tell them about the change to your rent. You will need to tell them how much your new rent is and give them the date on which it changed. Universal Credit need you to give them this information after the rent has changed and not before.
