2. Information about my rent

When is my rent due?

Rent is due in advance every fortnight on a Monday.

Your rent is charged over 48 weeks each year, rather than 52. This means there are four weeks during the year when no rent is collected. These usually fall around Christmas and March, and we will tell you the exact dates at the start of your tenancy and at the beginning of each financial year.

If your rent account is clear, you won’t need to make a rent payment during these weeks. If you have rent arrears, you’ll still need to keep paying – this helps reduce what you owe.

If you pay monthly, you still make 12 equal payments across the year, even in months that include a rent‑free fortnight.

How your rent is worked out

The amount of rent you pay is linked to the facilities in your home, its size, age and type and in accordance with government rental policy.

Rent refunds

You may receive a rent refund if you have paid more rent than was due on your account. This can happen if you move out part‑way through a rent period, pay rent after your tenancy ends, or your rent or benefit entitlement is adjusted.

Any credit on your rent account will first be used to clear other housing‑related charges or debt you owe us, where applicable. If a refund is due, we will contact you and pay it by bank transfer.

If you think you may be owed a refund or have questions about a credit on your rent account, please contact us.
